Any suggestions on offbeat combos and segues? Half step>rider in mid '80"s or Eyes>Fire in '94, OMSN>jack straw '91 are examples I'm looking for. They don't need to be good, just interesting. I"m into this stuff.

Hey Lobster,

There's a Help>Slipknot>FIRE out there somewhere, but a mind more encylopedic than mine on this forum will have to point out to you exactly where.

I also believe they did some kind of Cassidy>Uncle John's sandwich somewheres...if you find out, let me know.

These aren't all combos..but some odd pairings as well

I think there is a dancin>bird song from sometime during summer '84. Either from the Greeks or Ventura.

Also, stuff like Shakedown>Greatest Story could be considered odd. I love both those tunes, but I'll pass on those two together. Like night and day...

One Purple Gel's Favs 8/1/82 - Playin>Iko

9/2 or 9/3/85 Stagger Lee>Iko

China Cat>Crazy Fingers - summer '88 Laguna?

Space>Werewolves 10/31/85 (love this one) also love the space>us blues from 9/15

Shakedown>Bertha from fall '79

Playin>Shakedown 9/5/82

Playin>Wheel>Playin 5/7/77

There was the Scarlet-Eyes from Frost 85.

There's a great Music-Sugaree-Music but I can't remember from where- anyone know?

I'd like to know more of them too, especially the ones that are good and not just novel.

Listening to Amsterdam 72 and there was a 30 minute Other One that seemed ready to bust into the reprise and Me and Bobby Magee starts causing a -didn't see that coming- then ends and goes into the Other One reprise. Seemed very out of place.

You want a weird combo, check out 9/24/76.

Playing in the Band > Supplication > Playing Reprise. The ONLY time Supplication was ever preceded by anything other than Lazy Lightning. You can tell that it wasn't planned, because they sound sort of confused as to what they should do as Playing is ending, and then the band just stops fighting it and goes into Supplication.

There are at least 6 more instances as well

6-27-85: Crazy fingers > Supplication > High Time
11-10-85: UJB > Supplication
3-21-86 Tons > Supplication > Let It grow
6-24-91 & 8-14-91: Prophet > Supplication > UJB
6-21-95: Playin > Supplication

Love the Saturday Night > Fire from Ventura 7-13-85. The wildfires on the mountainside were visble from the show.

Also the Miracle > Casey Jones from Greek 5-23-83

Another nice combo was Stagger Lee > Aiko, OKC Zoo 9-2-85

How about the Love Light>Stella>Love Light from 03-21-94. That was as oddball as it gets, but one of the best Stellas in the later years by far.

How about the Dead & the Bangles?

10/18/88 Keifer Arena UNO New Orleans

The Bangles opened up for George Michael at the Super Dome, then jetted across town to party with the Dead & Nevilles.

OK if we're discussing oddball combos that way, I don't think there are any wierder than the Dead w/ Hall & oates at the rainforest benefit MSG 9-24-88... That must have been John Scher's idea, I can't see anyone in the Dead family saying, "you know who we should really hook up with....."

I wish we could have Eugene Levy, in the make-up he donned for the movie A Mighty Wind(which looked dead-on a young Garcia), along w/ Chris Kattan from SNL as Oates, to re-enact that historic meeting of the minds and the mind-less.

That 82 fall tour had a bunch of odd combos-

The show mentioned earlier with the PLayin-shakedown had a Sugaree-women are smarter in the 2nd set

i do love the Playin > Aiko from 8-1-82, thanks for the reminder, Bopper.
Another cool pairing is Shakedown > Sugar Mag from the Fox 12-17-78

Also the Franklin's > Samson to open set 2 from 2-20-82, This is the only time I know of that Franklin's started a set, are there any others???

Also the next night at Pauley Pav they closed set 1 with Women Smart > Bertha
